WHAT IS FABS STANDARD?
How does it works
The FABS Council is the Standards Body. We define and manage the Functional Afrocentric Beauty Standard (FABS Standard) by setting the rules, criteria, and governance for natural and organic skincare tailored to melanin-rich skin.
Accredited Certification Bodies are independent organizations licensed by FABS Council. They are responsible for auditing brands, products, ingredients and raw materials to ensure compliance with the FABS Standard.
Once a product has been successfully audited, it earns the right to carry the Glowmark™ seal — the trusted consumer signature that confirms authenticity, safety, and adherence to the highest Afrocentric skincare standards

Our FABS structure ensures:
Integrity — Standards set and managed independently by FABS Council.
Transparency — Certification conducted by accredited third-party auditors.
Trust — Consumers worldwide recognize Glowmark™ as the assurance of quality for melanin-rich skin and in using natural resources responsibly, ensuring clean, responsible production that safeguards human health while minimizing environmental impact
Sustainability - By 2030, FABS™ will empower 5,400 African retailers, certify 200 brands, and set global benchmarks for 1,500 natural ingredients.
Our certification process goes beyond compliance—it champions sustainability, integrity, and skin-specific excellence for Africa and the world.

Crucial Sections of the FABS Standard
We use a specific criteria to ensure that water, minerals, botanicals, and other raw materials used are clean, safe, traceable, and sourced in ways that respect both skin health and African ecosystems.
Ensuring that guidelines for calculating functional, natural and organic content in formulations have clear thresholds required for a product to proudly carry the Glowmark™ seal for melanin-safe skincare.
Standards that safeguard hygiene, traceability, and product integrity, while requiring eco-conscious packaging that is recyclable, sustainable, and aligned with African circular economy goals.
Requirements to reduce environmental impact across production — from waste minimisation to renewable energy use — ensuring Afrocentric skincare contributes to a healthier planet.
Strict rules to ensure transparent, accurate, and non-misleading claims. Consumers are empowered with trustworthy information that honors the integrity of melanin-rich beauty.
All products, raw materials, and processes are audited by independent, accredited certification bodies, licensed under FABS Council. This ensures impartial, credible, and internationally recognised certification — sealed with the Glowmark™ signature.
